A Mask I Wore Once

They are cold,

not as much as I perceived, though.
looks like I was the lie—
locked my feelings, thinking they would never change.

But the unchanging was me.
they were tear-blind, but
I, too, had a mask on—
a different person when all alone.

perhaps I was the devil
to believe they were distant,
while I worked the mason, building walls.
Living as someone I despised,
to prove myself right, I fostered lies.

It took some mistakes and blunders

to see—
I was the murderer, I claimed them to be.
